Raising the walls on the Simmerman house

"A volunteer is a person who can see what others cannot see; who can feel what most do not feel. Often, such gifted persons do not think of themselves as volunteers, but as citizens--citizens in the fullest sense: partners in civilization." -President George H. W. Bush

We rely on volunteers like you to help us work to better the world around us and to help those in need of a helping hand. Volunteering with Habitat for Humanity is easy, fun, and rewarding. Please reivew this list and see if anything catches your eyes.

(note: if your group wants to get involved with Habitat, please see the link to the left).

Ways to Volunteer

  • Come to a meeting- There are always ways to get involved with Habitat. We welcome everyone to come and learn how he or she can get involved with a great cause. Meetings are the best way to get involved, as we discuss and give priority for volunteer opportunities to members in attendance. View our calendar for upcoming meetings.
  • Participate in a chapter event- View our list of projects and activities and contact an officer if you're interested in helping coordinate the event.
  • Advocate on behalf of Habitat- Sign up to be an advocate and receive e-mail notifications on upcoming issues. It's really simple! Every once and a while, you'll type your name into a prewritten letter to your elected official. Then you just type in your zip code and it automatically generates the letter to your representative. It's that easy, but it makes all the difference in the world!
  • Volunteer with the Springfield Affiliate- The Springfield Habitat offers many opportunities for groups and individuals to volunteer. Sign up for a build day or sign up to volunteer at their ReStore.
  • Sign up to help build over a break- Check back in the coming months for information on our Alternative Spring Break trip. You can click here to find out more information about Collegiate Challenge, possible site locations, and costs associated with these trips. If you are interested in helping to plan this event, please e-mail Rachel1027@missouristate.edu ASAP!
  • Become civically engaged on campus- Missouri State University offers great resources through the Campus Volunteer Center. For example, they host an annual "Into the Streets" event to promote community engagement. Habitat for Humanity has participated as one of the opportunities during this event. The Center also serves as the coordinator of the Presidential Service Award, a national award aimed at rewarding community service. Our chapter encourages all those who participate with Habitat to check out this great opportunity!
