Laura Simmerman in her new Habitat home

"A pessimist, they say, sees a glass of water as being half empty; an optimist sees the same glass as half full. But a giving person sees this glass of water and starts looking for someone who might be thirsty." -G. Donald Gal

Our chapter was founded in 1988. Since that time, members have actively participated in a wide array of service opportunities including poverty awareness events, build projects, and work trips. Below you will find some information on past events. We are still trying to locate more information, so if you have any details/photos to offer, please e-mail MSUHabitatforHumanity@gmail.com.

Some of our chapter's major events over the years are listed below:

Simmerman House 2009

Over the course of a few months, our chapter demolished an old, unlivable house at 929 Lynn St and reconstructed it into a new, livable home for Laura Simmerman and her two daughters. As part of Habitat's ReHabitat project, our chapter focused on using this opportunity to change the surrounding community for the better. We strove for energy efficiency during the demolition and construction stages. We would like to thank our CHASE sponsors and all the companies and individuals who volunteer time, money, and energy to this house. We would also like to thank the Springfield Habitat Affiliate for all of their guidance and assistance throughout the project. As a chapter, we are proud to call this our first build project in many years and are even prouder to call Laura, Sam, and Teea Simmerman lifelong friends.

Various members have devoted countless hours to the work at Springfield's Legacy Trails community. For more information on Legacy Trails, click here. In particular, we helped the Gabriella family landscape their house, creating a better sense of homeownership.
