The Secretary shall be the custodian of the records of the Chapter. The Secretary shall have, in general, all the powers and perform all the duties incident to the office of secretary and such other duties as may, from time to time, be prescribed by the Board or the President. The Secretary is responsible for the following:
The Secretary oversees the Advocacy/Education function of our campus chapter. This Committee is responsible for promoting the ideals of Habitat for Humanity, International by raising awareness of related issues. The Committee assumes the primary responsibility for developing and ensuring that there is proper implementation and administration of advocacy events and educational programs of the Chapter. As such, Rachel oversees the Fellowship Committee and related officers and the Networking Committee and related officers. A brief description of each office follows:
Fellowship Committee and Chairperson- The primary function of this committee is to promote the advocacy efforts of HFHI through trips, programs, and speakers. This committee shall thus oversee efforts to plan special events, both social and educational, and public relations with community entities.
Special Events- The purpose of Special Events is to plan/coordinate programs aimed at increasing awareness on the Chapter's ideals, such as Act!Speak!Build!Week, World Habitat Day, and Alternative Break trips. Special Events also plans social events to forge lifelong friendships amongst chapter members.
Public Relations- The purpose of Public Relations is to invite speakers to events, send follow-up thank you letters, and place event releases in media outlets--all in an effort to effectively and properly represent our chapter.
Networking Committee and Chairperson- Tasks of the Networking Committee include networking with on-campus entities to market our organization, recruiting new members and getting and keeping those members engaged, and publicizing events of the chapter. This committee shall thus oversee the following:
Historians- The chapter historians are responsible for taking photos at all events, putting these photos on a CD for records, creating photo albums and slideshows, and organizing the chapter office.
SGA Representatives- This office represents our organization in the Student Government Association. As such, they are to join the Public Affairs Committee, vote according to members' wishes, and report agenda decisions to the chapter.
Habitat Ambassadors- This is a new program to establish better relations with other student organizations on MSU's campus. If an organization would like to learn more about Habitat and receive more information on how to get involved, they contact our chapter to schedule a short presentation a their next meeting, given by our volunteer ambassadors.
