Because It Takes A Village... to Build a Home
If our designated Chapter Build Days do not fit your schedule, we encourage you to volunteer directly through our Springfield Habitat Affiliate (as an individual or group of friends).
Whether you are a seasoned builder or a beginner, Habitat can always use your help. Even if you don't know how to swing a hammer, the Habitat team will be more than happy to give you the instructions and supervision you need to be a productive homebuilder.

Habitat's New Community: Legacy Trails
Designing the second Habitat subdivision in Springfield started in 2004, incorporating the efforts of nearly 20 partnering community organizations and a committee of landscaping volunteers working toward making the subdivision environmentally friendly, utilizing native plants and grasses, and minimizing paved areas.
Legacy Trails will enhance the quality of life for residents as well as protect the quality of the environment, featuring:
In March of 2006, after more than two years of planning, Habitat was able to celebrate a groundbreaking on the 18 acres of farmland in north Springfield that will eventually house 56 families in need of affordable housing.
By August of 2006, the first house was completed at Legacy Trails, with five more houses under construction. The bioretention areas built to help manage storm water runoff proved successful, and a natural walking path for the subdivision was completed.
