"The best way to find yourself is to loose yourself in the service of others." -Gandhi
Do you have a desire to benefit your community? Then join Habitat for Humanity-MSU Chapter and gain valuable hands-on experience, a fresh perspective, and lifelong connections! Become involved with a great organization! NO experience or equipment is needed, and all are welcome to join!
Our organization meets every other Tuesday night at 6 p.m. at "The House" (white house next to Taco Bell and Scholar's House off Cherry Street). We encourage you to stop by and learn how to get involved, hear about upcoming events, meet new people, and have fun!
Benefits of Membership
There are many benefits of membership in our chapter. Members get to participate in house building, where they can learn how to use anything from hammers to power tools without any previous experience. Members also play a crucial role in fundraising efforts for new homes, lead events such as Act!Speak!Build!Week, and help our campus chapter make an impact in the community. MSU Habitat is a great way to earn community service hours, so members who participate in projects can have their volunteer hours counted towards the Presidential Service Award, a program coordinated by the Campus Volunteer Center. And best of all, by being an active member, you will make new friends while helping families who need a hand!
a) Eligibility: Any student, faculty member, administrator, or staff person of Missouri State University, who has an interest in helping build the community we live in, can become a member of the chapter. The organization will guarantee that equal opportunity and equal access to membership, programming, facilities, and benefits shall be open to all persons who meet membership stipulations.
b) Dues: Chapter dues are set at $20/year, which includes a FREE chapter t-shirt (professionally made) and the option of making a second FREE t-shirt at an upcoming meeting (you make). Questions regarding dues should be directed to our chapter Treasurer. Dues help cover our chapter's project and activities and our financial obligations to Habitat International.
c) Membership form: Fill out a build liability waiver for our records (you may download, print, and return the form at any time). You may also e-mail MSUHabitatforHumanity@gmail.com, requesting a copy.
d) Meetings: The chapter will hold a meeting of its members at least one (1) time a month during the school term. At chapter meetings, the board of officers may ask the members to discuss and/or vote upon issues affecting the chapter. All attending members will be allowed to vote. Try to attend bi-weekly meetings when able.
e) Committees: Participate in a committee and chapter events to gain leadership and developmental skills. More details on committees will be given at meetings.
