Interested in Becoming Greek? Or Better yet, a Delta Chi?

“Redefining the college social fraternity”

Becoming a member of Delta Chi is more than just becoming part of a club. It provides you with the opportunity to  be involved with an international brotherhood spanning 115 years, to refine your personal and social skills, to develop a sense of belonging and fellowship in a college environment, and to jump-start your success after college. It also encourages you to broaden your college experiences through leadership programming, intramural events, academic support, inter-Greek events, regional conferences, and international conventions.  The goal of our fraternity, expressly spelled out in our constitution, is to “promote friendship, develop character, advance justice, and assist in the acquisition of a sound education.”  But what exactly does that mean for everyday college life?

Promote Friendship

Certainly one of the most obvious reasons for joining fraternity is the social benefits.  As you may know, a fraternity is based on a “brotherhood” of men.  Brotherhood is a concept that is difficult to describe or fully comprehend until it is experienced. A great part of being a Delta Chi are exchanges with other sororities, brotherhood events such as super bowl parties, float trips and hitting balls at the driving range. Delta Chi offers you the chance to bond with a group of goal-oriented men and to make life-long friends with guys you will come to know and think of as brothers.  Though large events and shirts with letters on them are outward signs of our brotherhood, much more can be found with a closer look.  Signs of our brotherhood can be found everyday walking to class, in the dining centers, at a late night study session, or just a night out on the town.  There is an ignorant stereotype that fraternity men just buy their friends. One of the best responses to this stereotype is that, "If I paid for my friends by joining my fraternity, then I surely did not pay enough for the caliber of friends I received."

"Delta Chi was my first love; and shall be my last"

-Peter Schermerhorn Johnson-

Develop Character

Character is good sportsmanship. Character is academic success and integrity. Character is holding yourself and others to a higher standard. Character is doing the right thing. The character of a man is the greatest measure of his potential. In Delta Chi, character is a core value and the cornerstone of the Fraternity.

Challenging yourself to take a leadership role, to chair a committee, to be the point guard for the intramural basketball team, to tutor a younger member in Calculus, or to simply be a member who lives according to the values of the Ritual and the Ten Basic Expectations of a Delta Chi all work to help develop your individual character.

Here at Missouri State, our members are involved heavily both on campus and in the community through organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club.  The leadership skills instilled in our members is visible across campus in other organizations ranging from Spanish Club to Student Government Association.

Advance Justice

Originally founded as a law fraternity, Delta Chi still holds as its cardinal principle: the perpetuation of justice in society.  This can range from supporting academic honesty to holding your brothers to the values of the Fraternity.  One of these values is the strict enforcement of the second basic expectation of a Delta Chi:  I will respect the dignity and worth of all persons.  I will not physically, mentally, psychologically or sexually haze any human being.  Though many organizations may have a no hazing policy, the Missouri State Delta Chi chapter enforces it.

Assist in the Acquisition of a Sound Education

The reason you chose to go to college was to get an education. Delta Chi helps you make that happen.  Going from high school to college is a stressful life change, and whatever you can do to make it less stressful, the better. To increase the odds of becoming academically successful, Delta Chi can provide you with a support network around your college experience. This can be in the form of study groups, note files, mentoring by upperclassmen, and advice from the chapter's faculty advisor. There is a reason that fraternity men have a higher graduation rate than men who choose not to join a fraternity. Success breeds success.  Our Chapter ranked Number One in Grades during the Spring 2005 semester with an overall chapter GPA of 3.12, and we look to continue this tradition in the future.

We encourage you to look at all fraternities, but carefully consider what we have to offer.  Check out our Calendar to see what Rush events are coming up.  Also feel free to contact our Rush Chairman, Billy McLendon at (816)-225-3270 or at Billy323@MissouriState.edu  with any questions or concerns you may have.  We look forward to hearing from you.
