  2. Include a statement with your signature that states, “This work is the result of my personal effort. I give the MSU Phi Eta Sigma chapter all rights to this essay.”

2.      Your essay should be between 1,000 and 1,500 words. The content of the paper should be more than your personal opinion. If you use ideas or thoughts of others, be sure to credit them appropriately on a bibliography page.

3.      Use any acceptable research paper style for your paper. It should be typed or produced on a word processor. Handwritten essays will not be accepted.

4.      Your name should appear only on page 1 of your application. Do not include it in your essay.

5.      Do not put your essay into a folder or special presentation binder; just staple the sheets together.

Evaluation Procedure

All essays will be assigned a random number when they are received. After duplication, three judges will read them and rank all submitted essays in numerical order of quality. Judges will be asked to review these elements: clarity and presentation of ideas, use of language, depth of research and overall effect of the essay. In the event of a tie, the judges will be polled to review the tie and make a final decision. Judges’ names will be kept confidential.
